Fair and impartial procurement activities
Sharp goes beyond initiatives concerning quality, price, and delivery of parts and materials, working with its suppliers to ensure sustainable growth and mutual prosperity.
We actively seek to fulfil our social responsibilities over a wide range of areas across the entire Sharp supply chain. These areas include product safety, environmental protection, human rights and labour, and health and safety.
Sharp’s basic approach, concrete policies, and requests to suppliers on procurement activities are set out in its Basic Purchasing Principles.
CSR initiatives
In the Sharp Supply-Chain CSR Deployment Guidebook, derived from the Basic Purchasing Principles, Sharp clearly declares the implementation of CSR initiatives such as complying with all laws, regulations, and social standards and protecting the environment as one of its procurement policies.
Specifically, these include eliminating child/ forced labour and discrimination and compliance with labour-related laws, such as those dealing with employees’ rights to organise and collective bargaining. Sharp also encourages its business partners to actively promote activities such as these.
Sharp communicates actively with supplier sales representatives daily to deepen the understanding between Sharp and its business partners.
Management of chemical substances
Sharp’s products are built from a plurality of parts and materials and contain wide-ranging chemical substances. Our production processes at factories also use chemical substances.
In accordance with our Basic Environmental Policy of “Creating an Environmentally Conscious Company with Sincerity and Creativity,” the Sharp Code of Conduct stipulates the management of chemical substances as follows, on the precondition of compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and regional agreements.
EU REACH Regulation
The European Union Regulation (EC 1907/2006) on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals, came into force on June 1, 2007. One objective of this regulation is to improve, within the overall framework of sustainable development, the protection of human health and the environment from the risks of chemical substances.
Sharp supports this objective and, under the Sharp Code of Conduct, is taking a proactive approach to comply with laws and regulations.
Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
A SDS (Safety Data Sheet) describes the properties of a chemical substance as well as emergency measures for dealing with that chemical—or a product containing that chemical—in the event of an accident.
This helps to ensure that the chemical’s properties are correctly understood and that products containing that chemical can be used safely.
